Mr. Devon Meek J.P. hails from the District of Brainerd in the parish of St. Mary. He attended the Brainerd Primary, Richmond New Secondary and St. Mary High School in the parish before obtaining tertiary education at the Passley Gardens Teachers College and Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Meek embarked on his teaching career in his own community at the Brainerd All Age School. After leaving College, his aptitude for mathematics took him to his alma mater, St. Mary High School where he taught CXC Mathematics for almost a decade. Determined to give back to his community, he returned to the Brainerd All Age School where he served as principal for a number of years.
Mr. Meek has made outstanding contribution to community development including service as corresponding sponsor for the Brainerd Basic School, President of the Lions Club of St. Mary and Diabetes Associates Chairman for the Caribbean Region for Lions International. He also served on a number of committees for the Jamaica Teachers’ Association. Mr. Meek is a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica. His hard work and dedication earned him the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation Award for outstanding service to education in 2006.
Mr. Meek has been employed as Regional Officer by the Jamaica Teachers’ Association since September 2007. He has keen interest in cricket and politics and specializes in making people happy.
The establishment of the NCE was born out of the need to have a non-partisan, national and strategically placed organisation that would "address a wide range of issues impacting the education process".
