THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON EDUCATION
The National Council on Education (NCE), an agency of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, with responsibility for processing the appointment of school boards, is now operating from the Caenwood Centre, 37 Arnold Road, Kingston 5. The members of the Council are as follows:
The Council members represent various sectors/bodies inclusive of parenting, sport, culture, education, the ecumenical community, political parties, the National Secondary Students’ Council (NSSC), the media fraternity, trade unions, as well as the business and the agricultural sectors. The National Council on Education is a statutory body, which was established through a bi-partisan agreement in parliament, in 1993. Among its mandates are: nominating and training school board members, resolving school governance issues and providing timely policy advice on educational matters. The organization is committed to impacting the education process through the goal of improving student outcomes and transforming lives.
The establishment of the NCE was born out of the need to have a non-partisan, national and strategically placed organisation that would "address a wide range of issues impacting the education process".
